School Property Manager Workshop at Howick Primary School

Last Friday (May 16 2025), PFHW hosted a successful School Property Manager Workshop at Howick Primary School, led by Ben Zhang. This hands-on session focused on fruit tree pruning techniques, tool safety, mulching practices, and key health & safety measures—supporting school staff in managing and enhancing their school environments.

Property managers and/or caretakers from Botany Downs Secondary School, Howick Primary School, Pigeon Mountain Primary School, Sancta Maria College, Pakuranga Heights Primary School, and Bucklands Beach Primary School attended the workshop.

The workshop is part of our School Waste Minimisation Project, proudly funded by the Howick Local Board and supported by Auckland Council’s Sustainable Schools team.

Feedback has been encouraging, with one participant from Sancta Maria College sharing:

“Thanks for your informative workshop… Les and I are keen to introduce those learnings at our site. We see huge scope in further developing the school environment with more planting and better maintenance of what we already have.”

We’re also pleased that schools are keen to join our Native Trees for Native Birds program and to build upon existing student-led sustainability efforts.
