MAGIC is in your hands!

  1. The thumb is carbon M·easurement. Without our thumbs, we would be unable to do many tasks.
  2. The pointer finger is A·nalysis. Analysing carbon data and activities helps us to point out carbon reduction potentials.
  3. The long finger is miti·G·ation. It reminds us that carbon reduction is a long journey.
  4. The ring finger is I·ntegration. New Zealand curriculum requires us to integrate climate change into our classrooms.
  5. The pinky finger is C·ommunication. Make a “pinky promise” on carbon neutralisation with school stakeholders.

Cadetship Programme

2024

In November 2024, our cadetship programme reached 180 students – its largest audience to date! Usually, our programme is delivered to small groups of students, like individual classes and school environment groups. However, this time all of Shelly Park Primary School’s year 5 and 6 classes participated in the programme.

Students took part in four hour-and-a-half sessions where they learned about New Zealand wildlife, the threats posed by introduced pests, and the things that they can do to help native species in their backyards. Some of the students’ highlights included: seeing the taxidermy pest animals up-close, using trakka tunnels to investigate which pest animals and native species (like weta and skinks) were living around the school, and designing their own solutions to help native species. We were super impressed by some of the creative ideas that students came up with. These ranged from robotic kiwi and fake eggs to putrid scents to keep pests away!
