LETTERS OF GRATITUDE: HEARTFELT THANKS FROM OUR COMMUNITY

Dear organizers of the Moth Plant Competition,

I would like to express my gratitude for arranging this great event. This year is our first time taking part in it, and we were surprised to see the preparation of instructions and guidance in both Chinese and English. The inclusion of bilingual leaflets has significantly eased communication, particularly with families of Asian descent who possess similar plants in their gardens. Prior to this competition, many were unaware of the harmful nature of moth vines and allowed their proliferation within their gardens. As we conducted cleaning activities in various areas, passers-by would often approach us, mistaking the plant for edible chayote. Through this activity, more and more people have learned how harmful this plant is.

When the children first saw the huge moth-vine-covered plant die off, they were shocked by the damage the creeping vine was doing to native plants. We agree that it is imperative to continue clearing and controlling the spread of this plant until a majority of individuals possess a clear understanding of its harmfulness. Through this competition, we and our surrounding friends, children and their classmates and teachers, as well as every place we cleaned up, every passer-by who saw and asked us, all clearly understood the harmfulness of this plant , and how to clean it up. There are a lot of teams in this event, I believe we have completed a fairly large-scale work, which is very meaningful!

Kind Regards,

Cathy

[To Whom It May Concern]

Thank you to the organisers for letting us join the Moth Plant Competition. The Moth Plant is harmful for the environment. I’ve learnt something about the Moth Plant while I was picking the pods, which is that the milk inside the pods is poisonous and can cause the skin itch. I have told my friends and teachers about the plant and they know how dangerous it is now.

I thank you a lot that you invited us to join the competition.
