Chewcards

These are a great way to get an idea about what sort of animals and in particular pest animals you might have in your garden or around your home. Even if you don’t think you have pests, or you don’t ever see them, chances are they are there.

A chew card is harmless and a common tool that can indicate the presence or absence of pest animals in a given area. More information can be found on this website by clicking here.

Putting these up in your garden is easy. We can provide a cut piece of corflute or other similar material that is perfect for withstanding the elements outside and shows teeth indents beautifully. Follow this link for a more detailed description about how to make these at home, or in your classroom.

When you have some activity on your chew card you have a couple of options. First would be to sign up for a free rat trap to try and keep these pests away from your home. However we understand that this isn’t for everyone so there are other things you can be doing to keep these animals away.

  1. Make sure all rubbish bins are securely closed so that pest animals cannot get into them.
  2. Don’t feed the birds. We know this can be tempting, but any leftover crumbs are too tempting for rats and mice. Other options are sugar water feeders up high in trees.
