Expression of Interest (EOI)

Sustainable Schools and Howick Local Board are seeking local schools who would like to participate in a waste minimisation project. This project is a partnership to support your schools reduce waste to landfill by 40% using Auckland Council’s waste hierarchy to achieve our bold goal of zero waste by 2040.

This project will cover the time period from Monday, 22 July 2024 until Monday, 30 June 2025 – It will involve:

  1. A baseline waste audit by Thursday, 31 October 2024 (unless already completed in 2024)
  2. Creation of an action plan with specific goals around waste reduction, including a rationale of materials and resources required to implement your action plan by Friday, 15 November 2024.
  3. A before story, an update story in March 25, and an After-news story with photos or video
  4. A final waste audit by Friday, 30 May 2025

Participating schools will have access to grants to procure materials, equipment, or resources necessary to implement their action plans, in collaboration with a community waste coordinator.

Up to $1,000 per new school, or if school is continuing from the past-year project/s up to $500.

Mentoring programme – available for schools involved in the 2023/2024 project, who have reduced your waste by 40% or more, have a chance to share your learning with a new school – please apply to us why you should be considered as a mentoring school (funding available).
